He’s makin’ a list, checkin’ it twice, gonna find out who’s naughty or nice…

I’m cataloging all of my machines. This is step one of wrapping up my second phase of typewriter *collecting* and starting the path to fully appreciating the best specimens of the herd – the threaded stock, if you will. I’ve cataloged typing samples, a short blurb and serial numbers for everything except the 60’s SCM’s and the two electrics. That’s 20 so far out of 28 total.

I will then take a group picture of the pile of little suitcases, and then pictures of each machine against a white background, with as good a camera and lighting as I can scrounge up. (If someone close by has a good DSLR and can take pretty good pics, I will be happy to supply you with some interesting subject matter to add to your portfolio, and could even offer you a typewriter for your troubles!)

Then I shall post a page to my blog, with the collected herd and all information gathered. This page will be divided into 3 groups: The Keepers, The Working Culls, and The Skippers. The last group will be open to adoption to loving homes. I will offer these to the local folks first, then if no interest is forthcoming from that angle, to folks willing to pay shipping to other locales. The fate of the second group is under study but will probably be fileable under “Evangelism” or “Supporting your Local Typewriter Repairman”.

Stay Tuned!

  1. I read the title of this thread and thought “What, Christmas already?” Well, last week I noticed Hobby Lobby has their wreaths and fake trees already on display. Gotta getta jump on Halloween, or something.

Good idea about culling out your collection. Me, I’ve only five machines, and one is in the shop being restored. Hardly a collection at all, just a mere smattering.

    1. You, sir, are a scion of self-restraint. I admire and wish to emulate your example. (:

  2. I’s be happy to adopt the Golden Touch, just let me know. ( :

    1. sadly for you, the Golden Touch is not in the latter two groups, sorry (:

  3. If you need some help with pics, I’d be happy to lend a hand. I used to shoot for a living. Let me know. Though I’ll be out of town this weekend.

  4. awesomeness! Let me know when you’re back in town and we can hook up. Thanks! (:
