Adler and AEG/Mignon pages verified and updated!

Had a nice birthday surprise in my inbox this morning – Georg Sommeregger heard my plea for more serial number info for Hermes, and kindly sent me a copy of “H.F.W. Schramm, Liste der Herstellungsdaten deutscher und ausländischer Schreibmaschinen, 11th edition, Hans Burghagen Verlag, Hamburg 1962”, a comprehensive German-language age list, an earlier version of which is the famed “Source 13” from which Dirk Schumann compiled much of the TW-DB’s data from.

Not only does this help with my Hermes questions, it also allows me to go back over many of the European brand pages and verify and update them using the newer 1962 version. I’ve just done this on the AEG/Mignon page and partially updated some tables on the Adler page. Enjoy!

  1. I’m amazed at your burst of progress. This is a fantastic project!

  2. Ted–hope all is well—platens are still flowing in and for the most part having great success. I just stumbled across the TYPEWRITER DATABASE whcih has references to this book H.F.W. Schramm, Liste der Herstellungsdaten deutscher und ausländischer Schreibmaschinen, 11th edition, Hans Burghagen Verlag, Hamburg 1962….it appears it may hold key information that we have been trying to back into and guess at on platen diameters—–do you know where a copy might be begged, borrowed or bought!

    Take care Peter

    1. Yes! As we speak our agent Marlies (typeshalfspaces) in the Netherlands is scanning high-resolution copies of ‘Liste der Herstellungsdaten deutscher und auslaendischer Schreibmaschinen’: 1941, 1950, 1953 and 1962 from the collection of Ryk van Dijk who runs the museum Sjoch, in Gytsjerk, Friesland. They should be ready very soon, and when I get ahold of good printable copies, rest assured that I’ll make sure to send them to you as well, to assist you in finally getting exact platen measurements for your manufacturing process. (:

  3. I hope this is the right place to post a question on Mignon typewriters – it is simply this, I have a model 4 but unlike all the illustrations I have seen it is not branded AEG anywhere, nor does it have a serial number. I know that the model 4 was produced in 1924 and thereafter – any idea how I can date it properly?
