  1. Automatic potato soup! My little sis’ A610 is still going great – probably the biggest digital photo bang for ones buck at the time. It replaced a broken Praktika MTLB. These were 21st and 40th birthday presents respectively.

    1. Yeah, that was a great little pocket camera, and I used it ’till it gave up the ghost (twice, since I did find replacement parts once and fixed it up the first time it died). I suggest looking into the Canon Hacker’s Development Kit (CHDK) firmware for your sis’ A610 – it’s Canon-approved (won’t void whatever warranty is left) and simple to install (just install it onto a handy SD card – no actual modification of the camera itself) and enjoy a greatly expanded range of options and features plus the ability to script actions like triggering shots on detection of motion (lightning shots) and intervalometer scripting (timelapse):

  2. Ah too bad, I cannot watch the timelapse. But great for you to have another go-to typewriter to replace the one that you gave to your nephew.

  3. Potato film: distubering, very distubering.

  4. The potato film is beautiful and horrifying at the same time. My favorite bit is when the starchy bubbles start to appear. Initally I thought it was the eyes sprouting, but the true terror of the scene was revealed. Wonderful!

    1. Heh, I was out of town all weekend and left this sequence running while I was gone. The sight (and smell) that greeted me when I came home was an unpleasant surprise, but the result is interesting. You try to predict how the sequence will go (framing of the scene and such) but you never really know how it’s going to turn out. That’s what’s delightful about warping time with photography! :D

  5. Still can’t get your videos to work. I do not know if it is FireFox (Chrome no better) or my OS (linux).
Great shots of the Humming Bird.

Weather is finally starting to get tolerable in Florida also. I’d rather be in Montana or Virgina (wife says otherwise)

Glad to see you are keeping up with things. I am wayyyyyy behind on blogging and it seems to be all I can do is comment. One day I may even get some typewirters on the database.

    1. I’ll have to put up a test page someplace and render this out in different formats to see what’s most compatible with troubled user’s browsers/OS’s. There has to be some format I can embed with HTML5 that’ll work for everyone.

  6. I love the time lapse work you’ve shown. I’ve long wanted to play with that myself.

  7. You certainly have a love of these Brother machines! I think I might even be convinced to own one, one day.

As for your potato…. Oh, the power of bacteria!
