made only one thriftin' stop this week in-between driving around chores, but that Deseret hit yeilded a primo Nikon FE for $15. I've been on the lookout for one of these.

I've finally cracked open this stack of paperbacks I picked up a couple of months ago. I think I now have every Rex Stout that exists (this pile is about 20 books high, it just didn't fit in the FOV.) I need the pair of Raymond Chandlers just so I can get a break from the onslaught of Archie and Nero.

  1. Ah, looks just like my old Nikon FE.

  2. Nice deal on that Nikon! Also, thanks for the noiseless serial number info and lastly, I recently read “The Little Sister” and thoroughly enjoyed it.

  3. oh, I forgot to mention, this particular FE has a Type E “Architectural Grid” fresnel focusing screen, the first I’ve ever seen on a camera. :D

  4. Great looking typewriter and FE. I’ve never seen a 35mm with the Fresnel lens. They are common on MF and LF ground glass backs. I wonder if the grid was made for using a very expensiveilt-shift lens. Too bad that lens was not included for the $15.

    1. I meant tilt-shift lens.

    1. Me too!
But luckily it’s going very well already. Great job Ted and all of the Hunters!

  5. Fifteen bucks for ANY Nikon SLR is unheard of in my neck of the woods. Great score. And yes, you need to counterbalance Nero Wolfe with a little more Marlowe. “…for down these mean streets a man must go”.
Although, when my wife and I were first going out, she said I reminded her of Archie Goodwin. I’m gonna have to read some Rex Stouts one day. So much classic crime fiction, so little time.
And congrats on the big 2K on the database!

  6. 2000? Congratulations! Good to see it is getting so much traction. Man…. I love that typeface on that machines. Certainly a keeper there.

  7. You definitely have the thrifting gene. That Nikon is very nice. $15 is also a great price. Congrats on the TWDB. That is great news. Viva typewriters.

  8. congratulations on the 2000!!!

  9. Congratulations on hitting the 2,000 mark! At the very beginning of the project I tried to register and never received a confirmation. Should I try again? Could be I am already in the database and didn’t know it.

I don’t know Nikon, but that was a great score! It seems most of the cameras in my area have gone missing, I suspect straight to ebay.

    1. you are registered and upgraded, you have been for awhile (:

go ahead and log in with the account you started.

  10. im glad i put in a few new galleries before i read this post. otherwise i would have felt bad with the lack of activity on the TWDB.
ive been going antiquing/typewriter hunting quite a bit the last 2 months or so… i wish i took more pics and tried to get SNs. I know for sure i wouldnt have been able to get typing samples: seems the shops around here kinda frown on testing out the merchandise, especially vintage typewriters. lame.
but im gonna start taking more pics of typewriters in the wild in order to document and add them to the twdb.
ive still got 50+ typers to add from my own collections…in due time michael
