The Five that stood out from the crowd. Oddly, all these fine mechanical pencils are sized 0.5mm, and the leads are all 0.9mm

Seeing the cap logo of this pen is what made me buy the bag. Do you recognize it from the ink bottle I got a couple weeks ago?

Says "MONT BLANC" on the band, moment of truth - is it a fountain pen, maybe a piston-filler that goes with the ink bottle?

aww, poo. it's a ballpoint.

The Mont Blanc refill inside is empty. The pen is very nicely made. everything screws apart and together nicely on hidden machined threads. Mont Blanc normally wants north of $300 for their ballpoints, so I guess they'd be well made...

No serial number engraved on the clip band. Could mean it either predates that practice, or it's a pretty well-made fake. I dunno enough to tell, and I have no idea what the model is or when it was made.

  1. WOW you really have the luck at thrifts! The closest I ever came to one of those was when a VP left his on my desk after a contract signing. I should have kept that, I don’t think he had any idea where he’d left it.

  2. The Mont Blanc ‘snow cap’ logo looks a little off to me, Ted. Doesn’t match compared to other models. Hard to tell. How’s the weight of it? Does it feel nicely balanced in the hand? Does it have “Germany” engraved on the clip? And if so, is the engraving neat and straight?
Either way, still a nice looking pen, and if it accepts MB refills, then that’s half the battle right there.

    1. Yeah, it feels pretty nice in the hand, but not having ever handled a real one, can’t tell much from that. It does not have “Germany” or the hidden “Pix” logo engraved on the inside of the clip, so I am leaning towards “fake”. That’s fine, though. It’s still a nice looker and I should at some point find some refills for it, so I can use it without having to worry about losing a $200 pen. :D

      1. One thing about the refills for this pen- rollerball refills can tend to dry out if left unused for long periods or if the cap is not screwed down fully. The ink is a lower viscosity than ballpoints. Actually, rollerball inks are more like the ink found in Magic Markers.

  3. Does the Koh-I-Noor pencil come with an ancient curse from Hindu god it was plucked from?

    1. Not unless that curse is to be a finely-balanced heavy-steel needle-point writing instrument. (:

  4. I just got a Koh-I-Noor slide rule!

    1. Sweet! do a slide rule post :D

  5. The “Mont Blanc” takes a standard G2 refill so there are lots of ballpoint, rollerball and gel ink refills available for it.

The leadholders and tech pencils also look good quality. Great score for $2.

    1. Thank you! and thanks for the Link Love (:

  6. Mont Blanc Starwalker – Chinese fake. Can’t beat the price though ;-)
