  1. Y’ever noticed how the same old faces crop up on those charity shop record sleeves? Over here its performers like Val Doonican, James Last & His Orchestra, Liberace, Bing Crosby, etc. – all artistes that used to be in my grandma’s record collection, bless her.

    1. Yep, down here in the desert, it’s Herb Alpert & His Tijuana Brass, Sing Along With Mitch Miller and untouched boxed sets of the Gold Plate Edition of The Book of Mormon (usually pressed on yellow vinyl). Fortunately, there’s also a lot of Exotica like Martin Denny, Les Baxter and Arthur Lyman everywhere, as this was a popular retirement destination for returned Pacific War veterans. The pickings aren’t as good as they were a decade ago, but there’s still a healthy variety of vinyl in good condition out there..

  2. I like Futuras too.

I think all the midsized, basket-shifted Royal portables from the ’40s to the ’70s are essentially the same, even though the exterior evolved to keep pace with the styles of the times.
