It’s Beginning to Rain…

It’s beginning to rain, rain, rain – hear the voice of the father,
Saying whosoever will come and drink from the water,
I will pour out my spirit on my sons and my daughters,
If you’re thirsty and dry, lift your hands to the sky,
It’s beginning to rain…

Had to come down here anyway to nuke a nest full of Yellowjackets that had taken residence, while they were snoozy and all cold and ensconsed therein. Soaked that sucker down with some Magnum-powered nerve toxin, and some 40+ of them nasty buggers dropped out like wet rocks. The dragon is slain!

Had to come down here anyway to nuke a nest full of Yellowjackets that had taken residence over the summer months. I had to plan the attack for when they were snoozy and all cold and ensconsed therein. Soaked that sucker down with some Magnum-powered nerve toxin, and some 40+ of them nasty yellow devils dropped out like wet rocks. The dragon is slain!

Actually, it turned out to be 55 of them, plus one bee caught in the crossfire.

  1. Please send the rain along to California when you are done with it. We are parched.

I think walnut burl or birdseye maple veneer would look very nice on your Royal Sabre of Portugal.

    1. We didn’t get much on the mesa but it hit the low desert pretty hard. Still no water in the Salt River section that goes through town. I suspect if it heads your way, it’ll spend itself in the Sierra Nevadas unless it gets significantly stronger.

Hmmn, I’ll have to pay a visit to some shop that is likely to have veneer scraps lying around for cheap. Maybe pick up some new facings for my label-fronted Galaxies too..

  2. Seems the rain comes where not needed and bypasses the places in dire need. Good you are getting some rain and cooler weather. Past weeks have actually been quite nice in Florida also, cool fall weather and a light rain every few days. Love the monster yellow jackets. Isn’t the second one the way Jed Clampett learned to dance?

  3. Ah, the Royal Skip! I know it well. On my Royal “O”, a light touch is required to avoid the dreaded skip, not a heavy one, and on all my Royals, it is important to have a consistent, deliberate RHYTHM — not too fast. The heavier touch, not so much.

    1. Rhythm is right – but in my case it seems best when firm, not bouncy. To me, the touch on the Sabre is more similar to a 50’s QDL than say a ’40s model. There is a definite consistent flavor to all Royals, though.

That Sabre is a lot like the one my parents gave me for Christmas in 1978. And funny, I mentioned Starship Troopers to my class today (“Might be the greatest movie ever made.”).

    1. I agree – Verhoeven is I think only now, almost 20 years later, getting the cred he deserves for his interpretation of Heinlein’s source material. (:

    2. Philosophy Teacher, I see you blog is now private. Sad, because I miss reading it.
