Raybestos Manhattan: The Space Age – The Age Of Reliability

Ahh, 1961 – how optimistic America was at the dawn of the Space Age, especially a certain leading manufacturer of Asbestos products called Raybestos Manhattan. I found this one at the last record show that Wayne Butane dragged me along to a couple months ago, and the guy at the booth had it marked at $6. His booth was at the end of the line, and I only had $2.75 left. It was the end of the day, and the tired-looking dealer apparently didn’t want to pack up more records than he had to, so the deal was made. :D

  1. I remember some of that. Sputnik was a big thing back then as was the space race. Products were still meant to work and last also.

Thanks for sharing the album. It is quite interesting.

  2. Very interesting record. I’ve always liked his speaking style.

  3. Some of these ads have an undertone of anxiety.

“Age of Reliability” — it’s not exactly inspiring, is it?

  4. Imagine that, an asbestos company that’s part of the solution!

  5. That ranks in the category of ultimate space age cool. I love the artifacts, advertising and propaganda from that era. The military/industrial complex was so frisky, fresh and full of optimism :)

  6. I worked for Raybestos Manhattan in the 70s. It was a very interesting and dynamic companies in!
