2001 Sony DSC-F707 with Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonar in Nightshot mode, 100 ISO, fronted by 58mm IR950nm or IR720nm filter, then a dialable variable ND filter to control how much light even gets to the IR filter. This is needed because the firmware locks the apreture wide open in Nightshot Mode. You basically have to use the variable ND to compensate and have some sort of exposure control. It actually works pretty well.

  1. Love the palms. They look like big giant dandelion flowers.
    Nice IR work.

  2. Nominated for best special effects in a blog post. :)

  3. Great post. And now I get the thermal wedgie/IR camera connection.

    1. hmmn, It didn’t occur to me to try and take a video of the thermal wedgie’s print head in IR mode while it was typing. Perhaps I’ll try that next time.. :D

  4. Your phun photo philter makes the palms look like fluffy truffula trees. Also: good to see chickens living LARGE – nice coop.

  5. That’s the same camera I have at work for menu presentations. I don’t get much chance to play with it though. Since it’s non-standard I wonder if they’d sell/give it to me some day.

    1. shouldn’t be too hard to get them to obsolete it – it’s a 5mp, 15 year old digital camera. :D

Just don’t remind them that it has one heck of a lens on it and very interesting sensitivities to non-visible light. (:
