1966 Monkey Wards Signature 440T: Thrift Score – with User Manual!

Weapon of Choice: “Thunderbird 3” 1966 Montgomery Wards Signature 440T

My other two previous Signature 440T finds:

Return Of The Typewriter Bone: 1968 Monkey Wards Signature 440T (Brother)

Deja Vu All Over Again – The Twin Brother

and some info I found on the 440T:

The 1968 Monkey Wards catalog that shows these 440Ts

The spring-loaded front clamp- that holds the machine in the case

Ha! found the shift key too when I took the bottom off. Man, this machine is spotless inside! :D

  1. Sweet! The thrift stores here in ABQ aren’t nearly as typewriter-laden, or as inexpensive.

    1. I’m starting to think that the Goodwills around here are sending typers to the auction site now. They always seem to be typewriter-free. I thought (hoped) maybe it just might have been Phoenix and the burbs would be spared..

That still leaves me the independents, though. (:

    2. One Goodwill up on Menaul I picked up a Selectric II, a Royal Parade (most recent one) and found a cartridge Brother (already had one). But it took many trips to find those all, and cheaply.

Also a Coleman propane stove as well, took a trip to Yellowstone with my JP-3 and stayed there for a few days.

  2. Congratulations on the great find!

  3. Nice machine, and practically for free. Thanks for the manual!

  4. I have an S510, the JP-3. It types well and has a lot of fidgety features. I love all the paperwork with yours. Great thrift shop find!

    1. Ooh, yeah – I have a 511D, and it’s chock full of cool features. I wish I liked it more, but there’s just something about the JP-1s that make me happy. Probably the vastly lighter weight :D

  5. Great report. I can’t believe how little you paid for it – amazingly cheap. And it certainly looks spotless inside!

  6. Looks in great shape (the felt too) and I also do like the shape of it.

  7. Wow that type very clear and straight!
