Update on the AI Thing; It’s’a Movin’ Real Fast… Also, Mail Call!

“Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind.” – The Orange Catholic Bible

Yeah, already here. A couple days ago I went through a drive-through and had my order taken perfectly by an AI through the voicebox radio in the drive-through line. The same voicebox that is crackly and renders human speech incomprehensible when used by a bored teenage order-taker was pin-drop clear and perfectly legible with a robot order-taker. It understood what I said and replied clearly and perfectly in context, and tallied up the order without me having to repeat anything. Far superior to a human, I’d judge from that one encounter, but deeply unsettling. There was still a bored teenager manning the register, but that’s also a robot job, if grocery self-checkouts are any indication. The high surf is comin’ in, Gidget. Better get out’cher longboard!

The WAN Show: AI is Scaring Its Own Creators

I can only imagine the impacts of hacking and state/corporate espionage on these models (Large Language Models) and graphs (it’s what Microsoft calls YOUR DATUMS). If history is any guide, there’ll be a lot of assumptions made about security that will quickly be found to be optimistic. Then again, nobody seems to be addressing the idea that using CoPilot to do all your work is probably also the method by which you are training the AI to do your work, and don’t think your boss hasn’t thought of that. People who juggle information for a living, behold your new early retirement plan. /:

  1. Can we ask AI to build a typewriter yet? :)

    1. Do you want more Royal Epochs? Because that’s how you get Royal Epochs. =P

  2. Artificial ye, intelligent???
Richard P seems to have stumped Chat GPT when he posted several typewriter related questions to it.https://writingball.blogspot.com/2022/12/ais-achilles-heel-typewriter-technology.html

    1. He stumped ChatGPT3, tho. This is all-new all-dancing GPT4 (:

  3. We better dust off a copy of Philip K. Dick’s DO ANDROIDS DREAM OF ELECTRIC SHEEP? so we can learn how to test for Replicants. Just don’t say, “So tell me about your mother.” Replicants are coming in a future near you. Hopefully they will follow Asimov’s “Three Laws of Robotics”.
