Finally, I can take photos that show how completely rust-free Little Jake actually is. Not bad for a machine built in 1933.

Maybe next one will have an EF 75-300mm or 50/1.8 lens on it. A boy can always dream! :D

Update: I just found this hack for this exact older kit lens that turns it into a hypercharged macro lens, just by removing the front glass ring. If I get tired of this $14.99 lens the way it is, I will probably try this out. I will definitely do so if I find another just like it.

  1. 600! And I still have a few more to add, as I slowly fill out your forms.

As for the uneven letters, exact same thing was wrong with my Silent (though the problem was even more pronounced) and I just fiddled with the alignment of the type guide. Eventually they evened out most of the way. Might be the problem on yours.

  2. very nice pics! I think the word is out of that model, they quickly pass 100 bucks on shopgoodwill. Can’t wait to see your Tucson report, they seem to get all the good AZ typers on the website, I wonder if any stay in the stores.

  3. Congratulations on the new camera, great shots!

  4. So glad you got yourself kitted out – at a good price too. Won”t it be great when twdb smashes the 1k barrier!

  5. Congrats on the new camera! The 20D is still a miraculous bit of technology. Great lens pickups, too!

    1. Yeah, it was really a cost-entry-point issue, with my good Canon luck with previous cameras and ease of finding thrift-store lenses that pushed me into an old, well-proven unit. I’ve checked eBay for people selling 35mm SLRs with lenses I want, and there’s plenty to pick and choose from. If I get impatient, I can easily pick up a used Canon 50mm prime and a 75-300mm paired together for around $150. You just can’t beat the options for price, I think.
