By Grabthar’s Hammer, It’s Just Right!

If you read my post a couple back on the economics of thermal paper rolls for the Chinese toy/crafter thermal mini-printers and silly toy cameras, you’ll have spotted the 3rd option on my cost chart – 2 1/4″ thermal rolls meant for cash registers. I had to order some, of course – once I knew how nicely receipt paper took ink and stampers, and dark black it could print when new and not rolls forgotten in some supply closet since the 80’s and then donated to Deseret, it was a no-brainer. The rolls came today, so it was time to pump out some test prints and do a layout to see how they looked.

The wire side of the paper is hard-surfaced, and is a little resistant to the glue stick. A light swipe won’t cut it, you gotta really make sure enough glue gets on the paper.

Modifying the paper roll holder box with a skewer spindle and foam spacers to keep the roll off the floor of the box and neatly centered. The flappy bit in the box will provide tension on the roll to keep it from unraveling or free-spinning.

  1. Reminds me of Jack Kerouac typing on rolls of teletype paper, which makes me wonder where one could get teletype paper nowadays.
