Another thing I found at Deseret today - a perfectly functional Garmin Streetpilot C330 GPS unit with car power cord and mounting bracket for $2. It's only got 1gb RAM, so the current 2014 USA 48 map @ 1.6gb won't fit, so I gotta figure out a way to split out just a handful of states to build a map image. Until then, I guess I can live with 2005 maps.

While clearing out the previous owner's saved addresses, routes and destinations (heh, be sure to factory-reset your GPS before donating it to a thrift store), I had to save the unit's "Max Speed Driven" record, just because it's awesome. Someone really had the pedal to the metal during that last trip!

Yeah, I cleared out the previous owner's saved addresses, but not before checking out the maps for "HOME" (not far from where I live - maybe I oughta go over there and see if they still have the user manual?), and this one - their cozy getaway cabin up in Utah.

Can you guess what these are?

Yep, once again, a beautiful set of matched Leslie speakers. If only I had the room.

I know my hearing's bad, so no need to own a hearing tester, but if I needed one, Goodwill's got me covered!

  1. I didn’t know typewriter database was so printer-friendly! I might just have to print some pages out…

The only electric typewriter I’d ever want is a Sears Medalist, I think.

I’ve found some pretty revealing personal things on computers found at thrift stores, or else picked up on craigslist as broken. XD

  2. Now I have learned something else about the typewriter Database. And those organ speakers look very cool. Nice discoveries young man.

  3. I had not known that you had the database set to be printer friendly — and now even more printer friendly. I need to get to work,, rephotograph my machines and get them uploaded.

I find it fun to delve into old PCs and electronics that I find that have any kind of memory. Surprising what some people let behind, not only financial things either.

I recognized those Leslies right away. Love to find a nice set like that here. Wife would probably make me get rid of my Voice of the Theater speakers though if I brough more too-big-for-our-house things home.

Thanks for all your work on the database. Did you get the old URL yet?

    1. not yet. should be 30 days from expiration to registrar lock being released. Should know within a couple weeks.

  4. Hello,
May I be added as a Typewriter Hunter please?
    Thank you!
Am very excited to add to the database!
    Best regards,
    Claudia (Account name is Claudear)

  5. I had never seen (or maybe just not paid attention to) SCM-made typewriters with ribbon covers that popped way up like that. Nifty.

I’m glad you’re thinking about paper in a time when it’s getting such little love.

    1. That was part of why I originally copied the old TW-DB and cleaned up the code – for printability. Ideally, you should be able to print the Database directly into book format. I need to try one of those “build a PDF of your blog” dealies on the Database, to see how it end up rendering.

  6. Nice finds! I think I signed up for the database at one point but never received any confirmation.

    1. you’ve been activated and upgraded to Typewriter Hunter for awhile now. (:
      Get to uploadin! :D

  7. I like to look at the audio stuff too, even though it makes me melancholy, the way we’re losing it piecemeal like that. Especially the old 78’s in the bins.
That ink – isn’t there a difference between dip ink and fountain pen ink? I’ve never been clear on that.

    1. Me either. I have that Stafford’s Carmine ink loaded in one of the Platignums right now, seems to be working ok so far. Just replaced the ink sac in the Wearever, should be inking it up today. Probably stick with Pelikan blue in that one, as it matches the barrel color.

    2. The difference is that dip/drawing ink will clog up a fountain pen because fountain ink is designed not to clog up a fountain pen. Without getting technical and making myself look silly. XD

  8. p.s. the QR in the printout is a nice touch!

  9. Now that is a great feature. Ted, thanks for all the work you put into the typewriter database! It is one of the best resources we have as typewriter collectors!

  10. That is one fabulous thrift store and some good finds.

I’d love to be upgraded to “typewriter hunter” in the database. Not sure my previous comment re this got posted. If so, apologies! If not, thanks! — Ari

    1. Hmm. I logged in to the site and it looks like I am added already, so thanks for that. Now to figure out how to post to my collection!

      1. well, you need Typewriter Hunter access to upload galleries. I’ve now upgraded you to that level. Enjoy! (:

  11. This reminded me I have a ton of machines to upload to the database. It’s been 5 years since my HDD with many of the images died, and 4 years since I read this post. Now I have even more to add — as soon as I finish painting the house.
